Salsih Sea Players Logo“The power of music to integrate and cure is quite fundamental. It is the most profound non-chemical medication.”                              –Oliver Saks

The mission of the Salish Sea Players is to bring professional, intimate Baroque chamber music concerts to audiences unable to attend traditional venues. Our primary focus is to share our passion with audiences in retirement, nursing, memory care and long-term care facilities.

Our concerts are about one hour in length and may be performed in a variety of spaces, large or small. An important part of the performance is sharing with the residents before, during, and after the concert, discussing the music, answering questions, and laughing together. Interaction between the artists and the audience is a rich experience for all.

“...Their programme of yesterday (Oct. 11, 2012) afternoon was played with real vigor and ensemble to the pleasure of a capacity room of music lovers…” — David Calhoun

The members of the Salish Sea Players are all specialists in the performance of music from the Baroque era and have active careers as professional musicians. Baroque violinist Linda Melsted forms the core of SSPlayers and invites players to join in the mission. Karen Fardal, cello, has become a fixture in SSPlayers concerts along with Charles Coldwell, recorder. Other artists who’ve joined in the fun include, Byran Rakitzis, violin,  Miyo Aoki-recorder, Curtis Foster-oboe, and Jonathan Oddie-harpsichord.

Fred Hauptman-harpsichord and Olga Hauptman were original members of SSPlayers, and have retired. I can’t imagine how Salish Sea Players could have gotten off the ground without their dedication and energy! Thank you!

Salish Sea Players is  Powered by Shunpike.  Fees for performances are on a “fair share” basis allowing even the most financially challenged facility to enjoy high quality, live music. Tax deductible donations to the Salish Sea Players are welcome and provide the means for the mission of the group to continue.  See “Donate Now“.

I have had the great pleasure of hearing the Salish Sea Players–at a concert in La Conner–and it was a delight! Not only is their music-making splendid, but the sparlking personalities of Olga, Linda and Fred, as they illuminate and educate the audience about the program, really do make a unique experience for their listeners!
